Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC) is pleased to announce a significant humanitarian achievement in securing the release of death compensation for the family of Late Shri Manjit Singh, an Indian national who tragically lost his life in a road accident in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, on 23 April 2018.Following the tragic incident, the bereaved family, particularly the deceased’s mother, Mrs. Gurmeet Kaur, faced years of uncertainty despite the compensation having been awarded by the competent authorities. After several years without receiving a clear update regarding the status of the compensation, Mrs. Gurmeet Kaur approached Pravasi Legal Cell seeking legal guidance and humanitarian assistance.Recognizing the family’s hardship, Pravasi Legal Cell took up the matter and initiated sustained representations with the concerned authorities in India and Oman. Under the leadership of Adv. Jose Abraham, Global President of Pravasi Legal Cell and Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India, and through the coordinated efforts of Sudheer Thirunilath, Global PRO, together with Adv. Jessy, President of Pravasi Legal Cell Oman Chapter, and the PLC Oman team, the matter was pursued relentlessly until a positive outcome was achieved.
The family has now officially received an email from the Embassy of India, Muscat, confirming that the compensation amount of OMR 14,550, equivalent to INR 36,13,111.50, was transferred on 29 July 2026 from the Embassy of India, Muscat to the District Collector’s Account, Gurdaspur, Punjab, through the State Bank of India, Muscat.
The Embassy further informed the family that the amount will be disbursed to the legal heirs by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur, after completion of the prescribed formalities and verification of the Legal Heir Certificate and other relevant documents.
